Culture, Community, and Commitment: A Student’s Journey with Aeros Leeds East

Choosing a flight school is one of the biggest decisions a student pilot will make. Beyond brochures and promises, what really matters is the culture of the training environment — and how it supports you through the inevitable challenges of becoming a pilot.

One of our recent graduates, Scott MacBain, at our Aeros Leeds East base completed his MEP, MEIR, and CPL training block with us, and his reflections captured exactly what we aim to provide.

Scott arrived feeling some natural nerves about training in a new location, but quickly felt at home:

“Until I travelled to Leeds, I had completed the vast majority of my training in Scotland so was a little apprehensive… I was however promptly put at ease as I walked up the stairs and was met by Garvie and Selma who would for the next few months create a welcoming atmosphere that was a pleasure to be around.”

For Scott, it was the culture at Aeros that stood out most:

“Within the first week at Aeros Leeds East, I began to understand the benefits that a healthy culture can provide… Somehow the mountain didn’t look so intimidating when surrounded by a feeling of togetherness and a general sense of openness and absence of judgement from both fellow students and instructors alike.”

Flight training comes with uncontrollable challenges — weather, aircraft, and schedules. But Scott noted how our team kept students at the forefront of their decisions:

“These challenges remain constant but how the school acts when faced with said challenges is what counts. I was staggered by both Selma and Garvie in their efforts to reshuffle the training schedule whenever something unexpected occurred. The big picture was most certainly in very sharp focus in the office and I felt that the decisions being made were truly in the best interests of each and every student.”

Finally, Scott speaks about our instructors — and how their passion and clarity made a lasting impression:

“During my time in Leeds, I was fortunate enough to work with some of the best educators I have had the pleasure to encounter… At Aeros, I met many such individuals that continually went above and beyond. I feel like I have not just left with the qualifications that I needed, but that I am leaving as a far better pilot too.”

Our thanks to Scott MacBain for sharing his experience with us!

At Aeros, we know flight training is about more than ticking boxes, licences and logbooks. It’s about creating a culture where students are supported, instructors are inspired, and pilots leave not just qualified — but resilient, confident and prepared for their future.
