Your Questions Answered

Thinking about learning to fly or becoming a professional pilot usually comes with a lot of questions.

We've answered some of the most common ones below. If you can't find what you're looking for, our team will be happy to help.

Starting Pilot Training

Do I need any flying experience to start?

No. You can begin your training with no previous flying experience. If you're considering a professional career, we'll help you understand the complete pathway from your first flight through to commercial qualifications.

What is the difference between Fast-Track and Flexi-Track?

Fast-Track provides a structured, full-time modular pathway through professional pilot training. Flexi-Track allows you to complete the same modular stages more flexibly around work, family or other commitments.

Can I visit Aeros before enrolling?

Absolutely. We encourage it. Rather than large generic open days, we offer personal tours where you can meet our team, see our facilities and discuss your individual training plans.

Do I need a Class 1 Medical?

Yes — before you can fly solo or hold a pilot's licence, you'll need to pass an aviation medical examination, and the class required depends on your training goal. For a Private Pilot Licence (PPL), a Class 2 medical certificate is sufficient. If your intention is to become a commercial pilot, you'll need the more rigorous Class 1 medical certificate — obtaining this is an important early step, since it's worth confirming before you commit to full-time commercial training. Our team can explain which class you'll need and help you arrange an assessment with an Aviation Medical Examiner (AME) as part of your training journey.

Training & Qualifications

How long does it take to become a commercial pilot?

It depends on the route you choose. Fast-Track is designed as a structured, full-time pathway and typically takes around 18 months. Flexi-Track allows training to take place over a longer period, fitted around other commitments — so timing is flexible and depends on the pace that works for you.

Is modular training recognised by airlines?

Absolutely. A modular frozen ATPL carries exactly the same licence and legal standing as any other route — what matters to airlines is your licence, hours, and performance at interview. We also hold relationships with multiple airlines, giving our modular graduates a direct route into recruitment.

Can I join Aeros if I've already started training elsewhere?

Yes. Many students join Aeros with existing licences, ratings or training experience. We'll review where you are in your journey and help identify the appropriate next step.

What about from Integrated to Modular?

Yes. The ideal point to switch is after you've completed your ATPL ground school exams. Since ATPL theory already covers PPL theory, you won't need to sit separate PPL ground exams — you move straight into PPL flight training, which is the modular equivalent of the foundation flying stage on the integrated route. From there, our team builds a tailored plan to take you through to a frozen ATPL.

Can I train for UK CAA and EASA qualifications?

We currently offer training for UK CAA qualifications only. Speak to our team about your career objectives and how a UK CAA licence fits your plans.

Costs & Payments

Do I have to pay for all my training upfront?

No — this is one of the things that sets Aeros apart. Beyond a single, modest enrolment fee, there are no substantial upfront payment schedules. Training runs on a genuine pay-as-you-train basis, so you keep your money until it's actually needed — and once you're in the flying phase, it's literally one flight at a time.

Can Aeros arrange pilot training finance?

Aeros does not provide financial advice or loans.

Can I work while I train?

Yes. Flexi-Track is particularly suited to students who want to combine training with employment or other commitments. Fast-Track is designed as a more intensive, full-time training pathway.

Careers & Airlines

Will Aeros help me find an airline job?

Yes. Graduate Services isn't just something that kicks in at the end — it supports you all the way through training, including CV writing and interview preparation, supported by Aeros Compass. Then, our airline tagging scheme and relationships give you a direct route into recruitment when you're ready to move into the cockpit professionally.

Does Aeros work with airlines?

Yes. Aeros works with airlines in a number of ways, including training partnerships, student engagement, recruitment activity, candidate matching and our airline tagging scheme. We're proud to be a training provider for the British Airways Speedbird Pilot Academy, alongside relationships with other airlines that give our students a direct route into recruitment.
